Pro-Slavery v. Anti-Slavery "Talk Show" Assignment
Throughout the history of the United States, the issue of slavery crippled and divided the nation. Slavery will become the root cause of the impending Civil War and force Americans to question whether or not the country can survive. It is well known that slavery is wrong, but have you ever put yourself into the shoes of a southern slave owner to find out how slavery, to them, was justifiable? Your assignment below focuses on the various roles within the slavery debate and their opinions/views.
Assignment
1. Get into groups of 3-5. *Pick your groups wisely. Missing students could effect your project!
2. Decide who will play the various parts listed below.
a. Talk Show Host: You will moderate the entire talk show. Create an opening statement for example" Welcome to the Daily Show. Please welcome....." Next step is to formulate questions with each "guest".
b. Abolitionist #1: Decide who you are, and then go back and research that person. Work with the host to develop questions and answers.
c. Abolitionist #2: Decide who you are, and then go back and research that person. Work with the host to develop questions and answers.
d. Pro-Slavery #1: Decide who you are, and then go back and research that person. Work with the host to develop questions and answers.
e. Pro-Slavery #2: Decide who you are, and then go back and research that person. Work with the host to develop questions and answers.
3. Once your research is complete and skit is complete, your group will act out your "Talkshow" and a complete written copy of the entire talk show must be turned in.
